Help me plan my future... need opinions on a car that'll last me next 5 years...

So my car is a POS ... I won't have enough money to fix the tranny when it goes, and if I do it's still a POS 2.8... This will always be my first car, and I'll love it for that, but c'mon... 6 cylinders is 2 short of a real engine... I've come to realize this at about a good time... I have a job... college is 9 months away, and I have some money laying around...

On to the story... I befriended a Ford guy over the weekend, turns out he's a GM at a fairly large Ford dealership around here. I told him I was keeping my eyes open, and he says, "Oh yeah? That body style?... I get them in regularly... V8 you want? Yep, I get 'em for a few hundred bucks..." ... said he would keep me posted. My mother babysits his kids, so it's not like he's going anywhere.

Should I stick with Thirdgen and get an LB9/L69 or an L98... go fourthgen because they are newer/more reliable (next car I get needs to make it through college)... or go second gen TA because those are my most favorite cars? Any car I get is going to be V8...

If I stick with thirdgen, do I go with auto L69 or LB9.. or venture to look for an L98?

I'm thinking L69 simply because I can cam it however I want, it's not figity like FI can sometimes be, and it can be a cool thing, carb that is... easier to mod/fix...

But the LB9 is TPI, which makes power, pretty much start and go... but then again, no lopey idle (which I love...), PITA to mod/work on...

L98... is well... an L98...

Or I could keep my lowly 2.8, spend a couple hundred on the exhaust and hope the tranny (or anything else) does not go out on me within the next 5 years (money is starting to run very short)... (tranny slips bad, fluid is trash btw)

I oculd always do like my friend does... buy a 200 dollar beater doesn't matter what it is (he drives an 85 Delta 88 right now) ... trash it for however long it lasts... and when it's done, buy a new one

What do you all suggest?

Feel free to comment, or fill out the poll if you like... I thank you all for any imput you can offer...
