Vapor Canister - how to purge without ECM?

So when the car (89 Iroc) was taken off the road 6 months ago, the Vapor canister was hooked up and in good working order. Along with my new engine, I've also swapped to a Holley HP ECM, and now I'm wondering how to control the purge on the Vapor Canister. First....I'm going to do some research and see if the Holley system will control that. It's possible, haven't looked yet. Second, if I'm not mistaken, don't the older cars use a thermal switch? What's involved with that? How does it work? Finally, I'm totally fine with deleting it if need be. No need to go down that road with opinions, and environmental concerns. If I need to, Ill do it. BUT....If I can keep it working....I'm going to keep it working.
