Do a search on it... it's been explained a bunch of times. Be sure you set aside at least an entire weekend to do it in!

I think you better let a mechinic do it. THe fuel pump on our cars is located in the fuel tank. Its a MAJOR PAIN IN THE ***, You have to remove your re-end and drop the gas tank out from under that car. I am sorry, but this is something most of us can't do ourselves, unless you have the correct tools.

Correct tools? Like what? You can do it if you have a basic set of metric sockets. The only "special" tool I can think if is a brass punch so you don't blow yourself sky-high using a steel punch to pop off the assembly retainer (brass doesn't spark).

I just have to disagree. This is something most of us can do ourselves. Rebuilding a transmission is something that takes special tools and most of us can't do ourselves, and even I did that right the first time I ever rebuilt one. Replacing a fuel pump is straightforward compared to that. Don't be intimidated by something that looks like it has a lot of stuff to move out of the way.

But then again, that was from a guy who didn't know where to put jackstands under his car.

I paid a mechanic about $200 plus parts to do the job. You should also change the fuel filter while you are at it, which is much easier.

you could also do the floor pan thing (definatly easier and faster) but it is a hack job IMO. still i know several dealers and chevy techs that do it this way. basically you lift the rear rug , there's a big flat spot in the middle of the hump behind the back seat. cut a square out of the big flat center piece, or just make a large flap that you can pull back. an air chisel or heavy duty tin snips are prefered (no sparks, but the tank should be sealed or almost full) pull back or remove the flap. use a small tubing cutter to cut the lines (there's like 4 ) and remove/replace the sending unit as normal. get some brass compression fittings that are the right size and reconnect the lines . pull the flap back over or get a piece of sheetmetal big enoough to cover the hole. screw or rivet it in ( use some seamsealer on it ,to prevent leaks) replace the carpet and your done. like i said it's a hack , but was done to my car from the dealer when i got it . it's hidden and you wouldnt ever know unless you looked (i did just to see because i was told the dealer just put in a new FP) . either way fuel pumps are not fun.
