350 TPI Mods - $1000 Budget
Engine is my 1987 350 TPI all stock.
I have been searching the forums and lots of great info on the 350 Engines.
But I haven't seen a post similair to asking my question.
If I set a $1000 budget what simple, reliable mods/rebuild can I do to the engine?
I will be getting Headers which is not part of this cost. I will try to pick up the parts over the Winter and do it in the Spring.
I am only thinking of doing this because I want to pull the engine to replace a back oil seal and clean the engine up a bit. So may as well do a little modding while the Engine is

Do a tune up.
Put on an exhaust.
Enjoy.
In all seriousness, I'd also look at a cam compatible with your stock heads. With a 1000 budget, new heads would be hard. Can also look into 1.6 rockers, I've heard them ran on stock L98 heads (not sure on the cam combo with them)

If you're doing headers already I'd go with an intake manifold and a tune.
Then for your next round heads and cam or stall and cam or...
Without knowing how you like your car setup it's impossible to know what to tell you.
Want torque? 3.42 read end and a stall.
Want hp? Intake and tune.
Want to drag race? Stall, tune
Want to road race?
Want to autocross?
Want to street light drag?

Just looking for a little extra grunt guys. No drag racing, just if I pull up against a mustang on a back road somewhere I want it seeing tail lights.
I am thinking exhaust, Intake and tune. Then possibly a cam next year. I like the 3.73s that are in the car now so will be keeping those gears.
Thanks for the info.

As I said, "Without knowing how you like your car setup it's impossible to know what to tell you."
"Little Extra grunt" doesn't help explain how you prefer power delivery especially when you follow that up with heads/cam. Your answer could be single plane intake. It could also be stock-ported.
I'll go middle of the road and say stick with stock ported and concentrate elsewhere. Like heads/cam/stall.

Re: 350 TPI Mods - $1000 Budget
I said no drag races-as in going to the track.
Also as said- I like my gear combo now in the 3.73s
I dont want to get into porting cylinders. When I smash the throttle at 30MPH, I want some more "grunt" from the engine. Make the car pull a little harder. I can beat Automatic Mustangs with it now but I dont think it will take a 5spd in a race.
Exhaust, Intake, and a chip would gain me what prob 25-30 HP ? That should give it what I want. If I could find a better set of used/ or new decent set of cylinder heads than ya I would probably throw them on.
