If they are 2.73s it is a 10 bolt. If you have posi already you can just get the gears you want for a series 2 carrier, but if you dont have posi, you might want to look into a posi carrier. The one you have now is series 2. It normaly only supports up to 3.08 gears, but you can get gears for the series 2 that are 3.23 and higher (numberically). If you want to do this I think that they sell them in jegs or summit. Make sure you get your stuff for the 7.5 ten bolt with 26 spline axles. You can upgrad to 28 spline axles, but it does not sound like you want to spend that much money.

ok, i don't have posi and am not interested in upgrading to posi at this time - so lemme get this straight - i need to upgrade my carrier? or i can get special gears for my series 2?

after i get load of money and more time to spend working on my car i plan on not only replacing the whole rear with a posi disc 3.73 from a newer camaro, but also attempting a t56 install as well, but for right now i'd like to get a little bit more oomph
thanks

First off, count the number of bolts around the rear diff cover. If it's got 9 bolts its a............... well, um, a 9 bolt rear, obviously. If it's got 10 it's............ you get the idea.

You can get special gears for the 10 bolt that will let you put in 3.08 or numerically higher gears on a 2-series carrier. The ring gear is thicker.

On a 9 bolt you're S.O.L.

An LG4 camaro only came with the 10 bolt rear. in 86, an LG4 would have the upgraded 7 5/8 ring gear. they do make a 3.73 gear that will fit on your 2 series carrier, yes. just make sure to request that.
