Camshafts

ok comp camps are teh best, I saw one on ebay that is a 262h grand and I want it but I dont think I will have the dough to get it since Im getting headers and y-pipe. With headers, and no other engine modifications, will this camshaft work for me, if not will it work with 1.6 ratio roller rockers and an edelbrock intake?

Lift: .465/.488
Duration: .224/.234
Rpm Range: 2500-6000

The degree is 109 for intake and 119 for exhaust

This too big? Or will it be ok with rockers, headers and intake?

yah, id say thats a bit much for a 305, at least on the duration side of things.
Besides, if the engine/drivetrain is otherwise, stock, y would you want a cam that didnt start making power until 2500rpm? it will be a total dog off the line. Also, since its not really a great idea to run a stock motor to 6000rpm, thats more reason not to get that cam.

also, dont buy a used cam.

for the 305, I would say get a comp cams x/e 252 or a 262.

I dont know what the comp cams "H" is that u described, but the x/e 262 makes power from 1200-5600rpm.

I would say get the edelbrock performer intake, the RPM will not fit under the stock hood, go with the x//e 262 cam, a set of headers, and ur car will haul ***.
Remember, the cam will only work good if the rest of the car(rear end, engine rpm, car weight, gearing, stall speed) is matched to it.

I think it's too much cam with 2.73's and a stock torque converter, without mentioning heads and exhaust.
What you should do is call Comps 800 number techline and get some suggestions.

cam rule number 1 - any duration over about 218 needs converter/gear

Not much gear, 3.42 to start.
Thats on a 350. A 305 should not go over about 214.

I'tll work fine. It will make good power jsut about at the stall speed of a stock converter.

uh yeah, sure , it's a step too big for your 305. and the 1.6 rockers will only make things worse. your lift will end up at like 488/502. the comp extreme energy they recomend is like 443/465 lift with 214/214 duration @.5 with a 112 centerline. it's a special grind for tpi 305's and 350's

yeah, that would be a good choice, even the x/e 256 would be good.
The x/e 262 may have to much lift for your stock valve springs, and could cause valve float at high rpm.
its always a good idea to go to small than to big with a cam

oh come on, you can't be serious. It fit under my hood. I had a 3"drop base open element air cleaner with a 1/2 inch spacer that raised the air cleaner. It fit just fine.

dont know how that is, I only have the Perfomer manifold and my air cleaner(low profile edelbrock, only about 1 inch high) hits the top of my hood.
I tried the rpm and when I put the carb. on, could barely shut the hood, thats with no air cleaner.
