88 firebird sbc 400 swap

I bought another person's project car from their wife after they passed. He was in the middle of putting a 400 in place of the 305 Tbi that came with the car. I bought it for a steal and plan on running the 400 in it but I'm running into problems. I plan on removing the harness and computer from the car but I saw in one of the wiring diagrams that the car uses a speed buffer for the speedometer. Is this a gear run sensor or an optical sensor. I believe the transmission is the T5 that came with the car but not entirely sure. The car was turned into a street level drag car at one point so that's my next question. How to I tell what transmission or rearend is in the car? Also what other problems would I likely run into by removing the harness? I know the cooling fan will need a stand alone controller. Would I be able to swap in a 2nd Gen analog cluster into a 3rd gen? Thanks, this is my first actual project car so I'm slowly learning more about it with time.

Post a pic of the trans and rear. Trans from all 4 sides, rear from the rear, showing the cover.

Best bet would be to leave the car's wiring and dash and all such as that, ALONE as much as possible. No need inserting yourself into places that it isn't necessary to go, and in the end just creating extra risk, trouble, work, and expense over something you messed up that you didn't have to. "Remove harness" is one of the best ways I know of to turn an otherwise POTENTIALLY NICE car into a trailer-park weed garden ornament.
