Picking the correct head gasket..

I think I should have asked this last week, BEFORE I ordered head gaskets but I thought I had picked out the correct set. I have been reading a few forums looking for advice on the correct head gasket for my iron head (083) 350.

Engine is stock and I will be hopefully reinstalling the heads this weekend. I ordered NAL-10105117 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-10105117

I have read a few post about thinner head gaskets upping the compression ratio which MAY free up a small amount of hp. In a nutshell, are the gaskets I picked out going to work for me or should I have went with something different? No forced induction on this stock engine.

Also, I am reusing my old bolts. They look great.

Re: Picking the correct head gasket..

I wouldnt go any thinner. I think stock is a steel shim .015 thick but not sure as it seems to leave some residue on the deck like its coated with something

I just recently used gm 14096405 which is similar to what you are looking at. But this motor used alum heads. Its working well so far it seems

Yours should work

Thanks, I thought buying head gaskets was an no brainer but I guess there are a few things to consider when picking the correct pair. Hopefully these work well as I really dont want to find out the heard way that I need to redo them. I will not be using any type of coating on the gaskets. They will be going on dry. Fingers crossed I dont break any bolts.
