Tech / General EngineIs your car making a strange sound or won't start? Thinking of adding power with a new combination? Need other technical information or engine specific advice? Don't see another board for your problem? Post it here!
1988 IROC Z Convertible, 305 TPI, 700R trans.
Car had been running fine then one morning car was a bit hard to start and once it did the IROC stumbled and I had to feather the foot pedal to keep it running. Once I had the chance to check the codes I found a code 34 and of course cleaned the MAF sensor but the car still was hard to start and it stumbled. Changed out the MAF Sensor and car ran great and went to check the codes and now a code 36! Changed out the Cooland Temp sending unit as some suggested here and still code 36. Changed out the three relays on at a time (with battery disconnected each time) MAF Power Relay, MAF Sensor Relay, and MAF Burnoff Relay. Car still runs great but ALDL light stays on and still a code 36... Any help would be welcome!
Thank you tuned performance,
I noticed you have Mile High Country as location... are you in the Colorado/Denver area? If so maybe we can catch up sometime, besides I will have to check out your 67.
I had the lower diagrahm already. I will use the top flow chart to help me figure it out my code 36 problem. Truth be told I am not very good with wiring... I find it daunting and it overwhelms me, I am a remove and replace kinda guy. I will give it a shot though. Thanks!
The 67 is a real project . I'm trying to sel some of my other vehicles to help me with its build.
I live up in the hills 9,200ft in Cotopaxi,co so just a few hrs from the COS.
Too bad we live far apart... My neighbor has a spectacular black 67 with a crate engine. I am also weighed down with other projects. Building a 58 Chevy Biscayne streetrod with a modern 2002 Vortec/LS engine with 2002 Camaro SS Heads and camshaft. As you know projects like that are longterm when you do them on your own. I also have a 66 Mustang GT I am trying to find time to finish. the 58 has been in the family since new and I drove it in HS back a looong time ago and you can see the modern engine on the stand. The 66 GT is under cover and I have owned it for 22 years
You are right, poor man but cool toys. I do private coaching now (wrestling) which has me traveling quite a bit during the year, I truly enjoy coaching but it does not make much money, it also does not allow much time in the garage. I like to do my own restorations.
I have a 65 Mustang I have owned 44 years that I restored a little more than 25 years ago. Just picked up an 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition (actually hoping to sell that on-so if you know anyone...)
