Nelson Racing Engines

Looking for a crate motor up to 550hp,,complete top to bottom.

Saw Nelson Racing 427 pump gas warrior and it looks good but @ 17K its a lot of cash to hand over to someone i dont know..
There seems to be another Nelson Racing Enterprises saying the other guy is a fake,,,
who is who here and who is building this motor that shows 650hp and 550ftlbs torque and rund over 7000rpm on pump gas !

WHO IS NELSON RACING "Tom Nelson" and has anyone dealt with these guys in California.

I am in Australia and cant take it back if its not what he advertises.
Thanks Steve

Re: Nelson Racing Engines

Thanks mate for reply

I agree he looks like he has great stuff.

like i mentioned i can get an engine built here in Australia but the same engine in America is 30 to 40% cheaper and shipping is no problem for the last 25 years.

just looking at his site again i see what i want,,ie: a 9.5 or 10.0:1 compression pump gas engine that setup properly will give 11.0 second passes and be streetable and reliable.

The engines i like are under $17k and thats a lot of money to get burned.

I simply done a review and google search on Nelson racing engines and saw some terrible stories and believe it or not never saw 1 good review of this fellow.

A website came up "warning" nelson racing engines ripp off merchant and one guy said he paid $17k on the internet and never ever got the engine delivered. It never ever got delivered at all!!

The warning came from an outfit called NELSON ENTERPRISES RACING and said that Ton Nelson had nothing to do with them and was a scam.

I am curiouse if i have the right engine guy i am viewing on youtube. yes wicked engine and i want one...

if i cant get any solid info on who i am dealing with i may go to Ron Shaver in California "the sprintcar engine guy" and get an engine off him from his crate engine list.

Or get onto Wesmar or Gaerte for an engine.
or check out CNC motorsports crate motors.

Thanks for reply
i will travel to America to buy the engine and see what i am getting live.

i still have faith in this nelson outfit and will do more homework

Re: Nelson Racing Engines

Been at Toms shop a number of times he is legit and pretty innovative in what he does. No he isnt cheap but it will be right when hes done with it.
The real Nelson is going to be listed in Chatsworth Ca 91311 I believe
He builds some pretty outrageous shop doesnt use cheap parts, everything is tuned to perfection dynoed etc. Yeah way more than Blueprint but those two arent even in the same league.

LPE (Lingenfelter) has always had stellar reputation and top notch reviews. You'dd be hard pressed to find bad feedback.

Re: Nelson Racing Engines

theres a guy selling a used nelson engine here in florida. he has paperwork for it but i think its a different company because it says, " nelson competition inc. pinellas park, florida, 33781, etc" probably the knock-off company not to be confussed with?

Re: Nelson Racing Engines

Thats the one i see all the bad press on Nelson Enterprises Racing.
It may be a case of a few companies using simmilar names to get exposure on the internet..

The actual bad story has a court judgement of $70,000 in the plaintiffs way,,there is a photo of this Tom nelson where the cheque and court judgment is posted.

Anyway take a minute to watch some real good historic touring car races on the link with javlins, camaro,s, falcon sprints, trans ams and lots of Aussie war horses "muscle cars" from the 60,s and 70,s

Re: Nelson Racing Engines

17k seems pricey for a pump gas 400" deal. May want to get on yellowbullet and ask around the naturally aspirated subforum to see who can ship a crate to australia.

650 hp deal could be done on a 421" dart shp block with basic compstar internals, or even howards stuff. Cheaper and still good for the power. Afr 220-227 head. Would be a fun combo

Re: Nelson Racing Engines

I agree...17k is a lot of coin for a rather simple build. Get in touch with Andy Jensen at Jensen Engine Technologies in PA. He's done a few for me and friends, and he builds great stuff at a really good price. I imagine he will want you to handle the freight, but I could be wrong.

Re: Nelson Racing Engines

Have you looked at Knight Engines? Does a lot of race and street engines down under. What I have read on SpeedTalk.com has all been good.

Re: Nelson Racing Engines

we got world record power boats,, over head cam top fuel engine built here,,KRE engines and many many more and even local guys like hercules engines ,,but an engine built here will be 30% more expensive due to importing parts,,then they put there price ontop,,,,i can buy from america where parts are 30% cheaper and even after freight i will be infront.

lots of methanol sprintcar shops here that specialise in 410ci brodix chevs and again all the parts are imported.

Gaerte race engines in America sell methanol engines here 30% cheaper than one built here.
