Change My Cooling Motor Now what???
(87 TA, 305 4bbl) alright, the other night my temp started raising at a idle. next morning checked it out... My fan went out. So i checked the fuses they were all good. then i installed a new cooling motor, still it isnt working. so it has to be in my wires. its 2 wires going into 20? should i even bother with this or just take it to the shop... and if i do try to fix this my self, what wires are they>>> anyone know???

i think the fan has its own relay. but i'm not real sure where it is. sorry i could'nt be of more help.

Its really simple just to hook your fan up to a switch. I have 2 fans. The one comes on when I put the key "on" and the second one is hooked up the switch so I can manually turn it on and off. On my car there is a sensor underneath the second (from the front) spark plug on the passenger side. If you unplug that and ground it (if I remember correctly ...its been a long time) the fan will automatically turn on when the ignition is on. Someone verify this for me...
Check your temp sending unit that sits in your intake. It acts as a switch that turns the fan on after the temp reaches a certain point. Mine kept melting for some strange reason, and that was the culprit for killing my fan. Replaced it 6 times altogether before giving up and hard wiring my fan to run full-time.
yeah, when i bought the car the fan was wired to be on all the time. but the other night i guess the wiring messed up b/c the motor is good. i'm just not sure where the wires go and come out at?
Ahhh. You prolly melted a wire then. Just trace them from your fan motor. You'll have to pull off that plastic casing crap to make it easier. Be sure to put it back on too. It protects the wires pretty well.

Cooling fan problems seem like a huge pain but once you get in there and start digging around you'll realize its just two wires (ground and power) mixed in with a bunch of crap to try to confuse you. Just follow those two wires around and you'll figure stuff out pretty quick. Let us know what you see and find.
