92 RS STARTING ISSUES!! SOS

So I have a 92 RS 305 carb. A couple of days ago I went to start it up and it would crank and try its hardest to turn over but wouldn't. Today when I got off I tightened the battery cables and reinserted the fuse for my fan located right by the battery and it huffed, puffed and finally slowlery sputtered into starting up. I ran it for about five minutes but now the fan isn't even working. And get this, each time I pull that fuse the car shuts off. I'm just learning but can someone plese tell me what might be my problem? Thanks 🤘🏿

Sure that's a fan fuse? Last I looked that fuse runs the power feed to the fuel pump.

I always thought it was for the computer?? We're talking the one in it's own holder that's on the inside of the right fender just in front of the battery right?
Sounds like maybe you should remove the battery cables from the battery, clean them up good and then retighten

That's the one I'm talking about... Service manual calls it inline fuse #3. Wiring diagram shows it powers the fuel pump relay, and runs to the ECM. It's not too specific about what purpose it serves at the ECM, but the ECM is also connected thru the ECM fuse to 12v switched power.

Moot point, since the car won't run with it unplugged anyway.

Re: 92 RS STARTING ISSUES!! SOS

thats the fuel pump relay - of course it shuts off, its powering the fuel pump. no power, no fuel = dies.

The only reason i can think it would be touching the ECM would be for the 2-3 second priming when the key comes on and the power feed from the oil pressure switch. as long as oil pressure is detected the circuit will have power outside of the initial prime.

the fan sounds like something else. there are 3 temp sensors on these things from memory. one near the thermostat which goes the the ecm, one on the drivers side which goes to the gauge and the other is on the passenger side which is the sender for the fans to switch on, check the one on the passenger side to make sure its connected.
