Mechanical or hydraulic clutch linkage for my 89 Camaro
Mechanical or hydraulic clutch linkage for my 89 Camaro
Just recently purchased 1989 Camaro (great body)with a seized engine. I also
have an 1982 Trans Am (total rust bucket) that has the BorgWarner 4 speed
with mechanical clutch linkage. Question will the mechanical linkage work in my Camaro or am I better off with the newer hydraulic clutch linkage.
Thanks

Unfortunately, "better off" doesn't even enter this picture.
With the 4-speed, you don't have much choice, at least as far as stock stuff.
You'd have to move over its ENTIRE setup, to use it in the 89 car. Every piece. Pedals, linkage, the chassis-side ball stud, crossmember, drive shaft, .... EVERY SINGLE piece.
I'd suggest being REAL sure that's what you want to do, BEFORE beginning the project. Not least, make sure that the trans really is a T-10 and not a Saginaw; that the newer car has AT LEAST 3.23 gears BARE MINIMUM; and that the lack of an overdrive won't be an unbearable daily drain on your debit card.

I have run third gen and both 4th gen styles of hydraulics in G-bodies.
I have also driven multi examples of the G-body mech. linkage which is very similar to, but not quite as bad as the 82-83 F-body.
I would go for the hydraulic stuff for the 89.

Use the pedals, clutch master cylinder, and resevoir from an 89-92 F-body and one of these throwout bearings. http://www.ramclutches.com/streethydraulics.html
Everything bolts up...unless the car was an automatic. Then you have to make a hole in the firewall for the clutch master cylinder. But if you use the 89-92 pedals, the mount for the pedals has a brace for the master cylinder that pretty much lines up with where you make the hole (no measuring).
I have a Super T-10 in my 88. Works great and fun to drive.

Will the mechanical clutch setup out of 1982 Camaro fit into 1989?
Looking to swap out TBI 305 v8 and 700R and install a carbureted 327 and 4 speed. I was wondering if the mechanical clutch setup out of 1982 Camaro will bolt into a 1989 Camaro RS? Thanks

I've never read about it being done but theoretically, it all should swap across. You will have to swap everything associated with it though.

The firewalls are different, so you'll have to mimic the '82 firewall cable pass-though in the '89.
