RedTek12A

So after probably 10+ years the A/C is working once again on my car. I replaced the original compressor with a AZ reman unit, replaced the accumulator, and orifice tube. Vacuumed it down for about a hour and half till it read about -28ish in/hg and put in 20oz of RedTekR12A (until low side read 38 lbs). I also had replace the pressure switch on my accumulator because I had to trip the old switch to get the pump to run to take on Freon. Again AZ had the part.

According to the information I found RedTekR12A is compatible with R-12 or R-134 systems and it has a lower weight for an equivalent amount of the R-134 or R-12. So I said to myself why not give it a shot.

A/C blows super cold now. Probably should have replaced all the hoses but I ran some of the RedTekR12A stop leak through the system so we'll see if it holds for a long-term period of time.

That's my experience. It's already into the high 90's here in AZ and I actually have to turn the air down to Low Normal now at idle because I get too cold. We'll see how she does in a month or two when it gets in the 115 range. Thought I'd share because I did a lot of research before I decided to go with RedTekR12A and so far (3 days) its paying off.

Re: RedTek12A

I'm keeping the original Harris 635 because they only give a $10 core on it. Was going to re-build it because the shop manual I have has a complete how-to on re-building the compressor. Only reason I didn't do it was the specialized tool requirements. Autozone had them but they would have run about $80 plus the A/C compressor seal kit was about $35 on RockAuto plus a few misc items I would have to get put me at the cost of a reman compressor from Autozone. Still may rebuild the original compressor in the future whenever I finish the car.

Re: RedTek12A

Also had to remove the high pressure blow switch on old compressor and put onto the remanufactured compressor too.
