Only 1 qt of oil!!!
Only 1 qt of oil!!!
Hi. Ok...for a while now my car has been reading about half oil pressure than normal. It's been reading 30. Well I just figured it was reading funny and being the genious I am I ignored it. At some point my car managed to leak out 4 qts of oil from a bad oil pressure sending unit. I was only running on 1 qt. I fixed the unit and filled the oil and it runs same as always and my pressure is back to 60+. My question is have I done any sever damage that I don't know about yet? There at the end I had like 20 psi and when I stopped at lights it would bounce off zero. It runs fine but is there any long term effects I will start noticing?

You could have fatiqued your valve train and it will most likely catch up with you. The last engine I had went through the same problem and because of the lack of oil in the heads my rockers and pushrods weakened and before I new it I was snapping pushrods and rockers every time I punched the gas. If you have the money and knowledge I would either replace the pushrods and rockers (and maybe the springs) or have a machine shop check it out.
You might have gotten lucky and dodged the bullet. Might also have done alot of wear in a short time. If it's running seemingly fine now, there isn't really much you can do short of tear down the motor to inspect everything. Change the oil and filter..keep driving it and cross your fingers.
