my car threw the smog pump belt today...will this hurt anything?

it like melted the belt and smelled like burning tires
it was crazy
but i was wondering if this will hurt anything
cuz i heard that by taking it off it frees up some ponies but also i causes the cat to become clogged
is this true?
thanks

nah...most people just remove it completely. Check if it's siezed or something to melt the belt like that.

Taking it off (i.e., not running it) will not free up any quantifiable power. I know this because I kept track of my times both with and without it.

I also know that if left on the car without the belt, it will freeze up the pump. That could be a function of the condition of the check valves, though.

Taking it completely off the car will free up a few pounds of weight. Again, not quantifiable at the track.
