Squeeky Puzzle...
Squeeky Puzzle...
Serpentine belt squeeks for 5 minutes of so after start-up.
So heating up quiets things.
When I turn the steering wheel - power steering pump needs to work - and
squeek stops or minimizes.
If I spray the belt with water, squeek stops for 30 seconds or so.
That makes me think it is not a pulley bearing.
Belt dressing, however, makes it much worse.
Any ideas?
Also - I can't seem to tell where the squeek is coming from.
Tried the "stethoscope" but still not sure.
Any ideas on that?
Thank you!

Have you removed the belt and spun the tensioner pulley ?

^ Agree, check the tensioner first. Also while it's running check for any pulleys which are wobbling. If all that looks OK, you may want to check the pulley alignment. They make special laser tools which sit down in the ribs to check alignment, but you can also just take a piece of straight bar stock and lay it flat against various pulley surfaces to get an idea. I had a recurring squeak that didn't go away until I shimmed the alternator pulley to be more inline with the others.
