Pesky Freeze Plugs.....

Okay, so the 88 Camaro sat under a covered parking area for 9 years. Should have been a clue. Replaced front pass side under the motor mount about 4 months ago. Then 2 weeks ago the driver side rear by the oil filter. Friday? The rear pass side behind the starter. Hardest part was getting the starter back in without lowering the exhaust.

Initial look.

Draining it out.

Lots of icky rust. Pulled out about a pound of it. Tried to clear out as much as I could reach.

Re: Pesky Freeze Plugs.....

Thats the result of using water instead of antifreeze/coolant !

I saw that MANY times when I lived down south!

NEVER seen a rusty block/radiator/bad freeze plug up north where
ALMOST everybody uses antifreeze/coolant.

Re: Pesky Freeze Plugs.....

Because all the core plugs are the same age and condition (except the ones you have replaced so far), expect to replace all the old ones at some time in the near future.

Don't forget the ones on the front and rear of the block.
