Best intake manifold gasket (Fel Pro) - which?
Best intake manifold gasket (Fel Pro) - which?
Hey, I know that Fel Pro gaskets are one of the best choices. There are different versions. Their best ones seem to be the Permadry Plus...
Is it correct that Fel Pro doesn't offer these gaskets for every car / usage? So which would be the best intake manifold gasket by Fel Pro for my '88 Camaro TBI, Vin E?
Thanks for your help.

I used the "Search by Engine" feature on felpro.com; this is the part number of the intake manifold gasket: MS99317.

Yes, I did that too. So there isn't another option? Because I've seen that there are these gaskets with some kind of "extra strip" around the passages... but as it seems not for these cars...?
Mahle has similar gaskets but as everyone tells you that Fel Pros are the best... I think I should use these.

Yeah, that's at least the look that I was looking for. But compared to Rockauto's suggestion for the Vin E TBI Camaro (MS93317) they have a different shape. Not shure if they would work. Your suggestion doesn't have one passage blocked at the end but the crossover (in the middle) is blocked whereas the other gasket is the other way round.
Which gasket do you guys use for the standard aluminium intake manifold to iron block on these cars?

What exactly are you looking for in a Print-O-Seal gasket with respect to the ports and passages? Are you running the stock intake manifold? Assuming you're all stock...
AFAIK, the "standard" intake manifold for your Camaro has an open exhaust cross over on both sides and does not have a rear coolant passage between the heads. This configuration is what the image of the MS93317 appears to match on Rock Lobster's website.
It appears that image of the 1256 gasket (http://www.jegs.com/i/Fel-Pro/375/1256/10002/-1) has restrictors in place at the exhaust cross over; IIRC, these are just punched out metal shims and can be either installed or can be pitched. This gasket also has the rear coolant passages opened for use with a Corvette intake manifold. These open rear coolant passage gaskets can be used with intake manifolds that do not have this coolant passage such as your stock manifold.
Don't get hung up on the overall shape of the gasket; the bolt patterns and port locations are all the same. I would however, measure your intake port dimensions and compare these to the gaskets to make sure the gasket fits the ports.

Re: Best intake manifold gasket (Fel Pro) - which?
I have a stock engine and stock aluminium manifold. I have to replace the manifold as it's cracked next to where the thermostat is mounted. If I can find a good used one I'd like to have the same stock manifold.
I just thought that these Permadry gaskets (or the ones with the print-o-seal) would make a better seal or be a bit more sturdy and forgiving if the job isn't done perfectly. I just want the best gasket that fits for my stock parts.
