305 TPI budget build for under 300hp
Hello guys
Time to refresh my good running 305 tpi
My goals are: good torque and little under 300hp
I was thinking of:
Lt1 cam out of a 97 firebird
1.6 roller rockers
0.15 head gasket
Ls6 valve springs and shims
Stock TPI porting
081 heads little porting (no 1.94 valve upgrade)
Could I use stock valve covers?
Is 0.15 Head Gasket good?
I am running 22LBS injectors out of an 89 Iroc
Car runs a MAF setup with Hypertech street runner chip and 8 degrees BTDC of base timing
What do you think about this build?
I cannot buy a 350 because here in Italy they are not cheap

That will free up some hp. Good idea to freshen heads with good valve job and cleaning. New springs are good idea too.
Bigger tpi runners would help some but overall i think you will like the mods. I would invest in tuning equipment to burn chips yourself to maximize performance

I'll take into account for sure
I think 1.94 valves are little overkill for a 305...hi-flo runners too so I wanna keep it the stockest as possible!
So the heads will be slightly ported with manley valves (10% more flow?)
Hope to get 260 - 270 whp

No need for new valves just clean yours and have a good 3 or 5 angle valve job done on them. Resurface the heads. Gain aittle compression
If you want 260 whp you will need alot more cam and some major head port work plus some upgrading to the intake manifold. Shorter runner and more rpm

I have a TPI setup ready to port out on the shelf so I think I will not upgrade to a stealth ram.
The major problem is the exhaust: I got stock manifolds
Anyone can suggest a cheap upgrade for that?
