super delayed 1-2 shift

my car pulls really well nowadays, but the 1-2 shift seems really delayed. for some reason, it sits at 5300 then slowly drops down to about 4500, then finally goes into second gear. the wierdest part about it is that my car is doing really well, its never been this fast, but could this be a sign of my tranny being in need of a fluid change? my tranny has 118k on it and i was thinking of doing the fluid change myself and installing a shift kit, but with that many miles would it be a bad idea?

Go to the tranny board and follow transfixleo's method of adjusting the TV cable, just look for similar posts about slipping trannies or email him.

After switching carbs I had what sounds like the same problem. Mine would slip and wait a whole bunch and roar in between gears. If you have done mods measure the distance on the new part and old part from where the cable hooks up to a bolt hole that goes to the engine or somthing and you will know if it is a different length. That was on mine with the thing that holds the outer sheath not moved and the end wire moved. If you changed both connections I guess you would have to measure them.
