82 Camaro 2.8 carburated has spark/fuel won't run
I am at my wits end and wonder if anyone can help, I have a 1982 Camaro Sport Coupe 2.8l carburated that I recently acquired and is my only vehicle atm. When I bought it I replaced the fuel pump, alternator, rebuilt the carb and installed new plugs. The car ran absolutley perfect! Midnight Christmas morning while doing 65mph with no issues the engine suddenly "popped" a few times and shut down (sounded like from the exhaust). I've since towed the car home, upon inspection I find I have spark and fuel yet the engine just spins without firing. All fuses in the panel check out good, battery is a a little tired but I have it on a charger/booster while running diagnostics. Could it go from running perfect (starting with the first bump of the key) to losing compression like a toggle switch? I am assuming it's not timing chain related since if the distrib. wasn't turning I wouldn't have spark, and all the plugs look normal. Any thoughts would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Unless you have beautiful blue spark, Replace coil cap and rotor

You sir deserve a medal, meanwhile I deserve a slap in the head for failing to suspect something so simple. Upon changing out the cap and rotor, the center contact on the rotor was completely disloged (making me wonder how I was getting any spark at all) also the cap had considerable corrosion/oxidation were the plug wires connect. New rotor/ new cap boom, purring again. Thank you very much W.E.G.!

This issue has been resolved...cap and rotor were junk. don't know how to delete this posting, sorry for posting it twice.
