According to the q and a yes it should work to regulate down a 42psi pump.
Get a pressure gauge too 3/8 npt to an-6 , an-6 to Saginaw.

i already did, see i got all my parts in today and now that i have the regulator in hand its not what i need

I use the Holley by-pass regulator with my Holley Blue pump. Had to upgrade the return from OEM 5/16"(TB application) to 3/8" otherwise I couldn't bring the pressure down to 6 PSI. Ran a length of -6AN along the existing fuel lines.
