Scanning RPM during cranking

Hey Folks, I am tying to trouble shoot a no injector pulse condition on my GTA. Questions is, when scanning the ECM during cranking should the ECM display RPMs or would that not show up until the car fires.

It seems like no in the part II in the very informative video below....

Generally no, the ALDL data stream RPM value isn't calculated until the engine is running (over 400 RPM). However, some data streams output the time between reference pulses.

If available that value can be used to calculate the engine RPM during cranking.
