Re: Engine question

170hp 255 ft lb tq vs 205-230hp 300 ft lb tq. That is if they are both stock 305s. Who knows bout the engine on bottom it looks to have been out at one point.

Re: Engine question

The top one is , depending on year , either a computer controlled carb or a "TBI" , Throttle Body Injection . The bottom one is a "TPI" Tuned Port Injection . Mostly it's a personal preference type of thing , with most folks considering the TPI as being more modifyable for a bit more power over it's stock configuration . Some folks hate the TPI and ditch it for a straight (non computer controlled) carb , and some folks will go as far as to buy an aftermarket TPI controlled by such an aftermarket computer as the "Megasquirt" system .

Personal preference is what it comes down to , since either system CAN be modified to the owner's vision of what they want their car to be .

So , which one do YOU like better ?

my car is the top one and it's bone stock it's a 305 TBI I'm just looking ways to make it faster. Can you change the top one to the bottom one? What's the best way to get the most performance out of the motor?

Re: Engine question

Trouble with TBI systems and making power is that you can only flow so much fuel through 2 injectors and they have limits. With a TPI system, you have 8 injectors so each cylinder can get more fuel from an injector swap to make more power.

A 454SS pickup truck ran TBI which is larger than the SBC TBI system. Even with 454 CID, the injectors limited it to around a maximum 330HP

Then first things first. Headers and matching y-pipe, 3in exhaust system, a posi with 3.42 gears,2400 stall torque converter, shift kit. Save your $ for a 350 engine down the road.

Re: Engine question

The TPI is the best looking factory small block ever produced imo.
