Tires on same axle need same Speed Rating to Pass Inspection??
Tires on same axle need same Speed Rating to Pass Inspection??
I was getting prices on a new tire (I only need one) and one guy said that legally, both tires on the same axle need to have the same speed rating (H, T, V whatever) to pass inspection.
I've never heard of this.
I found a good deal on a new tire, ($112 which includes everything) but it has a different speed rating from the other tire.
I'm not burning rubber in this car, so it doesn't bother me.
Do you think the inspection mechanic will even check?
I live in Pa.
Thanks

Never heard of that but it's also something I don't do.
I suppose you could say the vehicle is limited to the lowest speed rated tire.
Speed builds heat in the tire. A higher speed rated tire takes a lot longer to heat up. That's why you don't do a waterbox burnout at the dragstrip with street tires. The tires are designed to not heat up so all you do is wear the rubber off and make them slippery.
The only thing I may check on a tire during an inspection is to make sure it's the same size on both sides. I also don't like seeing LT tires on a trailer when they should have ST tires on them.

Thanks, Alkyiroc. While I have you here, what about exhaust patches? I just put some paste on the exhaust pipe right behind the cat. It had a small hole in the pipe right next to the flange. I filled it with some 'muffler mend' paste and it's stopped leaking. I've used this paste before and it holds up for years.
I had one mechanic reject my car due to an exhaust patch once. Other mechanics let it go.
