Mechanics, Help!!

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS:
Imagine this. I'm pulling out of the driveway in 1st gear going pretty slow (idle) in 1st just getting it cruise (no gas) then I tap the gas to give it a forward thrust and it bounces back and forth. It's worse in reverse. I can hear a lot of the gears being noisy and what not and my rear end obviously has been had fluid leaking out. Also, it does this in every gear (but 1st 2nd and 3rd are the noisiest). I thought it was the transmission mount. I checked those but not with a jack, I'll do that today. I used the pry bar. So should I just check to see if everything is bolted together back there? I need BADLY new shocks and struts, could that also be it? I've been asking this question for about 3 months on and off and no one has been able to help me. Does anyone else's car have this problem?

Another thing is, this only happens when gas is applied. I can be going pretty fast and push in the clutch and just cruise and everything will be running smoothly. When I tap the gas in my other cars all it does is give the WHOLE car a forward thrust and I am pushed back in my seat a bit, in my bird it's like I'm on one of those springy kid's ride that goes back and forth. Also, I'm pretty sure it's not the motor mounts because when the clutch is out the engine seems to stay.

Tranny Mounts? Motor mounts? Shocks? Drive shaft U-joints? Could it possibly be the torque arm since that is attached to the transmission? Track bar? Could I possibly need a new rear end? Should I put axle on jack stands and run through the gears and see what happens? AHH!

It's freezing here now and all snowy so I just want to know what you all think it would be to save time outside in -15 weather. Thanks.

Take a good look at the trans. mount. That could give you that funny feeling and some of the noise. The gear noise is hard to tell without hearing it for myself. While under the car take a good look at the U-joints and the pinion nut at the rear end. You might also check the output shaft of the trans for play. I hope this helps.

That's a pretty general question. That may be why the lack of response. Several of the things you mentioned could cause the car to buck, if that's a good word to desrcibe the cars' motion. I would start and do a systematic check of the drive line. Start w/ the motor mounts and work your way back. My first thought is maybe something in the rear suspension. I'm not a licensed tech. but have been rodding for over 30 years and do almost all my own work. I have had cars act like that before and it has been either mounts or rear suspension. Good luck.

i have had several u-joint cause a bad noise, and only when giving it gas. the correct way to check a u-joint is to remove the driveshaft (block wheels so car won't roll) and move u-joints back and forth. the rear joint is usually the bad one. best of luck, tom

just imagine A LOT of slop, no tightness AT ALL. I feel like instead of the car surging forward when I tap the gas, it kind of rises up then comes back down again and kind of bounces. Ok, get on your bed and put your feet on the wall (Hopefully your bed is planted) then push off. That's what I feel.

A total off the wall suggestion if its nothing in the drivetrain about ready to fall off the car... Sounds like an ignition timing issue, like the base timing is WAY off.

If you can very lightly press on the gas and get the car going up to speed just fine, but when you push any harder the car starts acting up, thats where I would be looking.

Madmax, you are freaking the PIMP!!! I do know that my car IS out of time kind of. Also sometimes when I shut it off it will run over then stop. How would I go about adjusting the time?

Hey you gave a little more on the discription (rasies up and comes back down). Replace the trans mount. When you try to accelerate the rear end tries to rotate. The torque arm's job it to stop this. Since the torque arm is connected to the rear of the trans. it tries to lift the trans. When the trans mount is broken it allows the trans to be lifted thus letting the rear end rotate. IIRC it is possible that the front U-joint can rub the floor pan when the trans. is lifted (bad noise).

I changed the tranny mount today. Still same problem. I bet it's the U-joints. Do you think that's it?
