Re: Fuel pump

Bump

Not just a bump. I just finished fighting with this car for a while. The timing on the new balancer was off by almost 10 degrees, the ignition module just went out, I switched cap module and all from my old c10, spark plug wires 6&8 were crossed, and my dizzy was a tooth off,my windshield wiper motor went out, seam seal at passenger side is messed up so water is getting in, and after fixing everything but the seam seal problem, and cleaning up all the left over wires from the swap, now the fuel pump is running but not pumping anything. help!!!

Re: Fuel pump

Fuel pumps (or any other kind of pumps for that matter) don't "pull". There is no such thing.

Rather, ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE acting on the fuel in the tank, PUSHES, when the pump attempts to move fuel (or whatever) out of the line between. Which means, THE ABSOLUTE MOST PRESSURE you can ever have trying to force fuel though some blockage on the supply side of the pump, is around 14.7 psi. Not awholehelluvalot. And it will usually be a good bit less than that.

Get the in-tank pump out of there if you want any chance of assured success.

Re: Fuel pump

If I still have to drop the tank, then screw it since it's not a race car I need and want an all ac delco... esp due to the fact that the current fuel sending unit doesn't work correctly. Does anyone know where I can pickup gm part # 19111386? If I cant find a new one reasonably priced (I keep finding $400+).

Thirdgen ranch has a used one for $50
