355 for my 1980 Camaro
Hey guys, new to forum
I am building a new 355 sbc for my 1980 Camaro. I know its 2nd gen but its pretty close to early 3rd. Right now it is a Berlinetta with a 305.
This will be my first engine build. I bought a really clean block with intake and some 882 heads and a distributer. It was a 1970 block but only had about 30k miles on it before sitting for years.
Two things I know for certain, I am likely going to use some 041 heads 2.02 intake 1.6 exhaust with Z28 springs from facebook marketplace, because from research it seems like a good choice in my budget.
Assuming the 355ci and 041 heads, what are some other steps towards mapping out what parts I want to use to build this engine? I am wanting a warm street build, somewhere around 300hp, I will drive it every day.
Thanks for any replies!

Throw all that junk away and just get a used 96 to 00 Vortec. Swap the cam, reseal it, and drop it in
There are so many potential issues with a block of that vintage.... the fact that it had 30k and then sat around.... yeah probably because it kept eating starters or cams or other such 70's nonsense. Get a roller cam Vortec for a couple hundred $ and bypass all the issues with the 70's stuff.
