5.7 wants to die on cold start after MAF replacement
5.7 wants to die on cold start after MAF replacement
I had code 32, 33, and 36 on my '87 formula 350, so I replaced the MAF with a new one from carparts website. After replacing, it fires up fine, but immediately bogs down and wants to die unless I give it gas. I have to hold it at anywhere from 1200 to 2000 rpm depending on how I catch it, but after 20 or 30 seconds of that, it'll idle alright and I can get driving when I feel like it.
Once the engine is hot, if I pull over and disconnect the negative terminal for a few seconds to clear the codes, it'll fire right back up perfectly, idle great, and not throw codes. I didnt have this issue with the old Bosch MAF that threw codes. Did I just get a bad MAF? I'm seriously considering just using the old MAF, as if it didnt throw codes, I wouldn't know there's an issue. The car ran great cold or hot other than codes being thrown.

Re: 5.7 wants to die on cold start after MAF replacement
read through this https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/5...questions.html it sounds like it isn't re learning the IAC.
In short.
Disconnect the battery for a few min.
reconnect
crank it don't touch anything let it try to idle or stall.
if it doesn't stall after a few min shut it off and crank it again.
if it does stall crank it again and don't touch anything and repeat.
If it still acts up then its a sensor, try it with the old MAF. But sounds like maybe the inital issue wasn't the MAF but one of the other sensors or vacuum leak.
