alright ive got an 88 iroc that ive had for almost a year now. it has been smoking on startup since a couple months after i got it. but when it the car has gotten cold and i try to crank it, it wants to die. the rpms stay real low like between 500 and 1000 and it wants to shut off. Once i drive it and get it warmed up it runs fine. anyone have any idea what the problem is? its not throwing any codes so im not sure what it would be.

 

Is the IAC moving? At all?

 

i havent looked under the hood when it does it b/c im usually late for school in the morning when it does it. do you think the iac is the prob.?

 

thats the same problem im having and ive been told over and over that its the iac and needs a good cleaning. does it sometimes stall going into gear? or idle really high in park when its warmer out (or just when the car isnt cold).

 

yes it will sometimes stall but not going into a gear it does it when it is already in a gear. and yes it does idle high in park after the car has been running it idles about 1200 to 1500 rpm's. what all is involved in cleaning the iac? or is that not my problem.

 

it sounds like the problem. i havent done it yet though. ill probably do it this week though. just get some carb cleaner to clean it with.
