Well the 305 being the bastard child it really is what do expect. It’s glory will come when all the 350 have reached their max bore or destroyed in the process and the 305 is all that’s left. Well the ones that haven’t been scrapped yet.

They still make a relatively inexpensive Dart block with 350 mains, a 1 piece rear seal, factory roller cam provisions and a 4.125" bore.

GM is still building 350s as well.

That Dart block would go nicely with these pistons I just saw. With a 3.480" stroke crank, you could have yourself a 377.

I was more thinking a 3.875" stroke crank.

Yes I’m fully aware of the aftermarket blocks. It’s apparently that God himself so loved the 350 SBC that it lives on still today.

Getting back to the original subject, boy this topic has derailed lol

YES,you'll get close to 200 hp with the newer 1982 and up 305 heads and the rest of your combo.
get a sbc version of a third gen automatic trans (or a complete donor 3rd gen v8 car)and do it.
there are better and worse ways to accomplish a goal but its better to do it,learn from it and move on.

the time spent with your son and ending up with a running, driving, cool looking car will be priceless.
i always wished my father would have done this with me,he dumped 2 junk 68 impalas in my lap when i was
15 and left me to it.it never happened because i had no idea what i was doing ,no help and NO INTERNET

Ignore the naysayers and have fun.DIVE IN

I think the reality check blew OP clean off the forum. He hasn't logged in since day one.

He got good advice. He probably just didn't want to hear that his plan was poor.
