89 IROC 305 TPI.What sensors should I replace while fuel rail is off?
1989 IROC 305 TPI/ AT I will be installing new fuel injectors, fuel rail O rings, EGR Valve and rebuilding the Fuel Pressure Regulator . What else is there that I should replace while the rail is off? Thanks.

You are doing it the right way, only thing I would add to that is your EGR temp sensor that goes on the front of the valve if so equipped. That typically causes the annoying/random code 32. I know I had to tear into my plenum more than once and just wish I would’ve done it all the the first time. If you go that route check ebay or the specialty corvette sites because we cannot get that part for our cars anymore, it’s around $50 and the only difference is the wire is shorter so you just have to splice in.

Almost forgot, trying to find a proper fitting EGR was tricky as well. The parts store junk typically hits on the plenum upon reassembly. I scoured the forums and found a part number that was a perfect fit AC Delco 214-5538 but it was made in China...however it still works. There is also a Wells egr some liked but I don’t remember the details on that.

Don't try to fix what isn't broken. You can bet that parts were better made, higher quality when the car was built than the Chinese communist **** the auto parts stores sell today. If it works, leave it alone.

Sadly, a lot of truth above. I was in the Auto Repair Business from 1973-1995. I sold replacement parts, often a "Preventative Maintenance" , WITH CONFIDENCE. For American cars, the parts were pretty much American made, and I rarly had a defective replacement part.
Now it IS a lot of commie $hit, even from the formally "Good" brands.
One of the reasons, that, after almost 55 years, I will slowly leave the car hobby.

I haven't looked recently, but I don't think my 89 has an EGR Tem Sensor. Isn't there another sensor, that require removal of the rail, to R&R ?
Re: 89 IROC 305 TPI.What sensors should I replace while fuel rail is off?
The EGR temp sensor went away pretty early. My 87 has one, my 91s don't. Not sure when they switched, but 88 or 89 would be a reasonable guess.

I did this fuel rail job on my 86 Corvette 350 and remember there was a sensor, threaded into the intake manifold, IIRC.

Pretty sure that’s where the Corvette mounted the egr temp switch, right behind the rail on the passenger side. It’s one of the differences between the F body and Corvette engines. If it’s not that I don’t know. Could be one of the coolant temp sensors but those are located right in front below the throttle body.

The IAT may also be on the underside of the plenum. As stated above, if it works, keep it. What you CAN do is to organize the EGR vacuum hose, all wiring, and connectors when you assemble everything so that when it is fully assembled you still have access. If an IAT or EGR sensor presents a problem in the future, it would be good to be able to diagnose that via the connectors rather than having to pull the plenum.
