My sending unit stopped working, supposedly the previous owner had the fuel pump changed, not sure if the sending unit was replaced or not. My question is should I have them replace the fuel pump along with the sending unit and is there a way to tell if the pump was changed or not?

 

It'd be kind of silly to have it all apart and NOT replace the pump. I've got it on my to-do list to tear into all my thirdgens and change the pumps as preventive maintenance. One went bad sitting in the garage already. It's no fun at all when the pumps fail someplace that you can't tear into the car. I'd rather change them on my own terms than have to tow em home and try to drain a full tank, etc.

I'm assuming you did some troubleshooting to determine that the sender is actually at fault, and not the gauge or wiring.

By all means, replace everything in there at one time, especially if you're paying someone else to do the job. There will probably be some indication if the pump has previously been replaced, either in the fuel connection(s), wiring, or strainer.

 

Yes all the troubleshooting was done gauge and wiring was checked and I just pulled up the carpet in the trunk and they did cut an access hole in it, so it won't cost as much for labor to get it done.
