Tech / General EngineIs your car making a strange sound or won't start? Thinking of adding power with a new combination? Need other technical information or engine specific advice? Don't see another board for your problem? Post it here!
Here we go. Picked up an 87 Camaro 2.8l MFI that we owned new then gave to my sister in law in ‘96 and now got it back.
The engine was replaced in the late ‘90’s but I’m not sure with what. The intake says 2.8 MFI but the valve cover has a part number of 14091821 which I think may be from an S10.
I looked all over the block for a serial number, without dismantling anything, and all I found was a GM stamping on the block and a remanufactured plate right above the oil filter
Any way to identify the year if this is a 2.8?
The car seems to run fine but the spark plug wiring is all messed up for a 2.8 I’ll include a picture of the wire layout.
GM 60* V6's are pretty much the same. Except for Chevy/Buick, RWD and FWD, etc. A Gen II version came out sometime around 1987 or something like that.
Your diagram is incorrect. The cylinder ID's you show are for a 90* V6 (4.3L) and not a 60* V6 which should be:
1 - 3 - 5
Front
2 - 4 - 6
Firing order is 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6; distributor rotates CW.
The engine ID should be on the passenger side of the block behind the distributor. The three letter suffix should identify the engine. Do an internet search to decode the suffix.
