Carbed LT1 Overheat?
Carbed LT1 Overheat?
I have some serious concerns that I am hoping someone can help with. To start things off I have been running my set up with a cammed and carbureted LT1 for years without having the temperature run over about 205 with my fan running. Typically closer to 195. I have installed a 100 shot of nitrous and following recommendations switched to a colder plug (NGK TR-6). I found 1 fouled plug in cylinder 8 while changing the plugs. Additionally, the NGK gaps are much tighter than the stock plugs which I read is needed for nitrous.
Now the car sits at 200 at idle and within a quarter mile reaches 220, even with the fan on.
Did I fix a problem by removing the fouled plug or cause one by switching to colder plugs with a tighter gap?!
I checked timing and initial is at 12. 22 degrees mechanical advance on distributor for 34 degrees total.. seems about right for a safe 100 shot hit based on recommendations from NOS and other guys running spray.
