1984 trans am fuel System
1984 trans am fuel System
Ok so I’ve been trying to fix up my trans am and I have a question about the fuel system set up when I bought the car the previous owner had wired up an electric pump and bypassed the mechanical. I want to put it back original so I put a new mechanical pump on it and hooked it up and it pumped fuel fine, but it flooded my carburetor to the top it was leaking fuel all the way around it. the carb was recently rebuilt so I don’t feel like it’s a needle and seat or a float problem and I didn’t have that problem with the electric pump. Any ideas?

Your carb has a needle & seat problem or a float problem. And your electric pump is a POS or maybe even doesn't work at all.
Kind of like asking: I poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick, and it hurts... why is that? Well, DUH. What else could it be?
"Recently rebuilt" notwithstanding. Or maybe, directly traceable to that.
Fix your carb and all will be well.

The electric pump works it ran off of it so it works. it just seemed weird that when I put the manual on there it happened, I’m not familiar with these cars I wasn’t sure if the previous owner had took of some kind of a fuel regulator and it was just blowing it through the carb too hard. I guess I’ll take it apart and see what’s up in the inside.
