On the snorkel of the air cleaner there's a sensor with a vacuum hose. I went to get an oil change and they broke it. I tried looking it up and I seen it may be the IAT sensor but when i look up an IAT sensor it doesn't show this. Does the vacuum hose lead to the IAT sensor or something?
Also, I'm going to need to repair or replace it- are the hoses at auto part stores any good? I've read ppl had issues, such as vacuum leaks when using them. I have heat shrink tubing (attached pictures) would that be sufficient in repairing the hose or am I better off looking for a replacement?
What is the function of this sensor?
(I'm in the process of cleaning the engine bay, car's been sitting for 4 years)
It is actually an actuator, it controls the hot air door on the air cleaner snorkel. There is supposed to be a piece of corrugated aluminum tubing between the stovepipe on the exhaust manifold and the connection on the bottom of the snorkel.
To fix the vacuum line a 2" piece of vacuum line should do the trick. Not sure how well the heat shrink will work, but can try it.
A little piece of 3/16" tubing slipped over the original will get it to hobble along until it breaks again in the next weeeeeekest place on that old dilapidated crustified crumbling-to-dust plastic line. Might want to consider just going to the parts store and either getting the pieces to make a new plastic line (the line and the 2 rubber boots), or a 2' or whatever piece of rubber line.
They'll have that heat riser hose as well; comes on a card hanging in the PCV area. It's real generic, just get the right size, which there are only 2 or 3 to choose from anyway.

Seen this after I already did the heat shrink and wrapped it in Tessa tape. I'll replace it before it fails.

Can that affect emissions in any way?
Possibly, but only during cold starts, which I dont think is a test case for emissions. The thermac shuts off once the engine is warm. If you have it connected without any vacuum leaks, you should be fine.
