Building a 350, need advice on what parts will fit

i have a 350 out of a 84 vechicle, i think its a 4bolt, im building it up over the next few months heres my plan

machine shop, bore .030 over, tanked, magna fluxed, honed, freeze plugs

Crank - Scat 9000 series nodular iron crank
Bearings- Clevite 77 H series Race bearings (rod, main)
Pistons- Hypo 18 Forged Pistons(30 overs)
Rods- not sure what rods im going to use(will take sugestions)

im going to run Nos in it at somepoint, i need to now if this lower end is compatable with the other parts, im new at this and i want to buy all my own parts then send it over to the machine shop so they dont screw me over on prices, please help me out, if it makes any difference its going in a 85 z28 with a tpi setup

You're mixing some terms here. Pistons come in three basic types: cast, hypereutectic (abbreviated "hyper"), and forged. The names imply the type of aluminum used and the method of forming the basic piston (all are machined to final dimensions). For use with power adders, your only consideration should be forged.

For rods, you should consider the powder metal type being used in high performance GM motors. Or, get some aftermarket forged.

You should be able to trust your machine shop enough to find out at least what they recommend. Most places will understand if you pick them up from a catalog or some other place that can sell them cheaper than they can. The higher price they charge you for parts is basically their costs in getting them for you. But, you also need to understand if something doesn't work (like a cylinder not cleaning up at .030 over), you're the one who has to return the parts you brought in and get them what will work. That can delay a project significantly.

KB does have a forged piston called hypo something

or other.. I have not seem them used yet and do not know the weight.

Since they are close in price to a ross-weisco or JE-SRP.. I would stick with a proven combination.

If your going to the trouble of forged pistons and plan on spraying, I would go with a highquality 4130 cap screw rod. I would not go with a lightweight I beam (scat or cat) but something in the middle weight range. I really don't care for H beam rods.

I would also see if I could find a forged steel crank.. they are available on ebay for about 125 over cast, normally around 250-275.
