Cam and springs

Hello, i have a 350 from a 88 r10 that I'm installing into my car. I'm converting it to carb and want to add a cam. I will be using stock untouched swirl port heads. Whats a decent cam for these heads with a good choppy idle? I know these heads untouched are not ideal, but i just want a little better performance. I was thinking about the comp 268.Any suggestions greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance

Re: Cam and springs

If this is a roller cam block use a Melling 22280 cam
Install degreed in on a 104 intake centerline..
%This will be 3degrees more advanced than cam card valve timing specs. Degree it in accuratly.
You can get it thru summit.. Use the summit hi perf
stock diameter ,550" lift springs kit.
110-120 seat pressure
retainer to valve guide boss top must be checked.
Use long slot rockers or grind lengthen the slots in stock rockers for lift.

If flat tappet use Summit cam/ lifter set # sum-K00172
Both these cams will want the diz mech advance curve modified.. Limit the mech adv travel to 10 degrees.
thus 24° base idle timing + 10° mech adv = 34° total.
This cannot be done just by swapping the adv springs.
Limit the mech adv travel. Stock is about 20° Make ut 10°

Re: Cam and springs

Find the summit springs on Summit.
Get some Summit long slot rockers too.
Guided type fir those heads
Get someone to help you with degreeing the cam

The Summit .550" lift sbc springs part # ends in 4000
Another solution is the gmpp blue LS springs and Comp 787 conversion retainers. shimming required. seat to retainer clearance a must check. high lift.
