Starter motor
Hi all I am trying to find a starter motor to go on to my 383 stroker build.
Currently I have a LT1 starter on my L98 as it is the only starter I could find that was smaller enough and would fit with the Stainless Works long tube headers but now I have built a new engine
which is a Dart block and has a 168 tooth flexplate so need a 168 tooth style Starter motor that would fit with the Stainless Works headers.
Can anyone recommend a small LT1 style 168 tooth starter
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Starter motor
There are two types, an F-car/B-Body and a Corvette, use the Corvette style LT1 starter. Its even smaller than the Fcar/B-Body starter and comparable to any mini starter in size. I use one on my LT1, 1-7/8" headers on that car so space is key

Re: Starter motor
90's truck starter motor. try a 96-99 vortec or maybe even an LO5 starter motor. I've used them, but not with your headers. can't remember the specific years. just check the box and try the fitment.
It'll have the staggered bolt pattern but otherwise be similar to the LT1 style.

Re: Starter motor
Chevrolet Performance high torque mini starter would be an option. It works for both 153 and 168 tooth flywheels. It's pricey though.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Starter motor
There are any number of the "mini starters" that work w/ both bolt patterns.
Most of them look like the Delco one; they're made by Hitachi. (or I should say, are "based on") Others look like the one for Vettes; those are Nippondenso style.
Alternatively you could put a 12.8" flywheel on it. That's probably what I'd do if I had header fitment worries.

Re: Starter motor
I am thinking about changing to a 153 tooth flexplate as that would cure my problems better

Re: Starter motor
good idea. then consider the LT1 style starter. if picked up from the local parts store, it can be returned if fitment is not 'good'
