It could be an intake leak if the intake has the cheapo plastic center gaskets or it could be a valve cover gasket leak. The only was to know for sure is to squeeze your hand back there and feel around which is almost impossible or jack the car up and take a look.

It could be the distributor gasket. There is a little round gasket that seals the distributor to the intake. I have had that leak in a car of mine, and it did exactly what yours is doing.

I've been dealing with the same type of problem.

I'm almost certain its not the back of the mainfold since I've re-sealed it and checked with hand and mirror several times and found no oil residue whatsoever.

Definitely check the gasket between the distributor and manifold. I had one there but it still leaked. A bit of RTV fixed it up.

Also make sure your valve cover gaskets are good. Tighten down the valve cover bolts a notch. Check/seal/or replace the grommet where your PCV valve goes. Also make sure your oil filter is on tight (I was taught hand-tight, but I give it an extra twist to be sure).

After doing all of this the leak is now alot less but I sometimes still get a few drops when I turn the engine off. It seems to be leaking right at the back of the engine on the drivers side, where the oil filter goes.

I'm being lazy now, but soon I'll put it on a lift so I can get right underneath it to eyeball the leak.

I bet it's your oil sending switch.
It's located on back of the intake on the driver's side of the distributor. Usually has a small pipe that screws into the intake.

When it leaks, it runs down the back of the engine as well as the top of the tranny. Check it out.
