Knocking noise
'87 carb 305 v8
Engine started knocking today, Oil pressure gauge has been bouncing haywire for the past week. any correlation? any common problems to produce a knocking noise? Current theories are a rocker slipped off a pushrod, or a bent/cracked push rod. hopefully something not as serious, but it comes directly from the engine. havent checked OBD1 Codes yet.

Perhaps your oil pump pick-up fell off? Try dumping an extra 2-3 quarts of oil in and see if the knock goes away & the gauge starts working correctly again.
