Throttle Body

Hey everybody. Say i got a 92 Camaro Z28 5.7 TPI and i was thinking about getting a BBK throttle body because i think the stock one is showing its age and may need replacing and i was wondering are they worth the money they are asking for.

Re: Throttle Body

TBs are somewhat repairable.

In what way is it "showing its age"?

Re: Throttle Body

Well I'm not 100% sure yet but i think there's a little play where the throttle cable go's to the throttle body where that round spring is and the car doesn't always keep a stead idle like it will idle just a little high not bad thou and i have gone through with the TPI and IAC so i know there good.. So i was thinking there was something maybe wore out in the throttle body. So i was planning to take the throttle body off and take a close look at it . And i saw the BBK throttle body on ebay and was just wondering if i had to replace it are they any good and worth the money there asking for it.

Re: Throttle Body

The wear is always the shaft into the body causing hang up idle. Recently a member posted some carb part numbers to use as bushings once reamed for them.

Re: Throttle Body

Putting a bigger tb on a tpi is loosing hp because of the no power after 4500
the only way they make power is past 4500
the higher rpm the better I saw 50hp at 8000rpm
I have a 383 stroker motor and alum heads and I got a real Holley stealth ram intake manifold it flows it looses power and tq low but after 4500 to 5500 that's where it all comes in
my old tb was bad leaking air badly
and the spring left in 1996 I got a spring from the store 4 buvks and bent it and for 20 years it was like that
untill I relized it was leaking bad and I got a bbk 58mm to match the intake and the engine
I met get 20 more hp at 5500
but getting the 52mm is good but you will loose hp
not as bad as 58mm
52 it won't leak and work mint
