rebuilding TPI throttle body?
So I'm seeing my throttle shaft and/or bearing is significantly worn... getting a lot of play in the throttle shaft.
Is it possible to rebuild the throttle body in terms the throttle shaft and bearing?
It's an old 52 mm SLP throttle body from the mid-90's, so I'd like to keep it if possible.

Are the slp's made differently than stock type? You can rebush stock throttlebodies just like a qjet throttlebody. Same size on GM stuff. I bought a rebushing kit from Cliff Ruggles and did it myself.

The SLP one is a bored out stock one, yeah.

This isn't the best breakdown but it gives an idea. Easier to take it apart on the other side of the TB, this link he takes the spring side apart. Seemed easier to grind the tps side of the shaft and use a small drill, tap and screw it back together when its done. You could possible weld or braze or epoxy I suppose too.

Looks like I can get a repair kit on ebay a lot cheaper, just doesn't come with the throttle blade screws, which I can probably buy at the local hardware store. Do you know what size the throttle blade screws are (I didn't see it in the corvette forum threads).

I'm purely guessing but 6-32 seems close. I have nothing to compare it with on hand. The importance or expense of the Ruggles kit is the drill bit. It and the collar make it close to full proof to not screw anything. I'm not telling you where to buy what but I just want to point out that what the added expense is from.

Loctite and I confirmed one of the screws I have are 6-32

If you didn’t feel like rebushing it yourself you can call tpis and see if they would do it.

I just did this finally. It's an old SLP throttle body I bought ~33 years ago, when they used to take 48mm stock ones and bore them out. You can't get these anymore and I didn't want to get rid of it for a new one.
But, the procedure pretty much went flawless (except for me putting one one of the blades in upside down initially... doh!). I forgot these blades have angled edges. I couldn't get the engine to idle down. Once I figured out what happened and fixed it, it's all back to normal.

I had used red loctite on the throttle blade screws, and man...just curing overnight... trying to get that errant blade off... I thought the screws or the allen bit were going to break before the locitte gave out. And even after the screw got loose, it had a lot of running torque trying to get it out all the way. I was initially questioning whether to peen them or use loctite since I was worried about bending the throttle shaft trying to peen the screw. But after having to take that blade off, I'm convinced these screws aren't going anywhere.
Matter of fact, be careful about the throttle shaft as it's actually quite delicate... just with normal handling it managed to bend a bit. I had to use a straight edge to tweak it back so it went back into the TB smoothly.
I also drilled and tapped the end of the throttle shaft to screw the throttle shaft back on with a high-strength screw... also with red loctite. So I'm sure that'll hold too. I was considering welding it, but again, the experience with the red loctite, I'm good with that.
Any rate, the movement is like butter now... so silky smooth. You don't realize how worn out stuff like this is until you rebuild it back to new.

Nice work. Glad it worked out for you. It's not too bad as long as the aluminum is all corroded.
