Any Experienced Engine Builders Around????

Im looking to build a 383 in the near future hopefully this summer. I was just wondering if any of you guys have experience doing something like this so you could help me on a couple on unclear areas. If you have ICQ msg me 3831731.

What are the issues? Don't be shy, post 'em!

Clearance - watch the rod nuts contacting the bottom of the cylinder.

Purchase a small base circle cam.

Bottom of piston to counter weight throw. Check pistons 1-2 and 7-8.

Well im not sure if I should use a block that has a one or two piece rear main seal?? Also I dont know if I need forged parts or not. I want to use a TPI plenum but replace the runners and base and probably the TB too but as for heads and camshaft I havent a clue.

well, it all depends on your goals as for what to use. i'd recomend starting with a one piece rear main seal block and a new cast steal crank. the crank is easily available new and fairly cheap. summit sells them as do others in many brands. stock 5.7 rods will do fine for a mild 383. if your just looking to go a bit faster ported stock heads on a 383 with around 10.5 to 1 compression and a cam with around 220 to 230 duration at .050. more important though is how fast you want to go.

Speed costs money! And it is a geometric relationship. Wanna go twice as fast, it will cost you four times the amount.

You can never go too fast.

Goto Summit or Jegs and start pricing out stroker stuff.

You can go with a killer bottom end (forged crank, good rods, forged pistons, lumpy cam) and use the stock heads for now if limited by a budget.

Then add better heads later.
