help me with my temperature guage

ok i have a 89 iroc z . My temperature guage just all of a sudden quit working. I notice though when I put my emergency brake on the guage shots way up to 260. and i Know my engine isnt running that hot. I dont get it. Help me. Oh ya I checked the wire going to the head and its still on there.

The gauges on our cars suck. Most likely the sending unit went bad. Mine did and I installed a new temp gauge.

ok I figured it out. when I would start it the ignition thing would stick a lil and not come all the way back.

dont pay attention to those things anyways. I have 2 thirdgens, both guages read below 120 degrees which doesnt make sense at all while its hotter than hell. most cars wont run right below 150 - 160. go buy aftermarket that works off the water passages and you will notice a huge difference.
