I think It's time to get a new Cam, One Quick Question

I think I am going to ditch the idea of an SS hood and put the money towards getting a cam, since my car is slower than a Civic. Now before I go buy one, I was wondering what the price of installation would be. I'm just trying to get a quick estimate, I would be getting this same guy that installed my rear gears , he charged $150 for that, just wondering if anyone could make an estimate from what he charged me for gears. This wouldn't be until after college is out for the year anyways.

edit:
My brother just gave me an idea, instead of a cam swap, how about putting 1.6 rockers on there, would that be a noticable change. Oh, and if anyone can recommend the best rockers under $100, thanks.

Mark..its me again. Honestly I would go with the cam swap. just swap the cam yourself its not hard. It will only cost about a hundred bucks with the new lifters. You will definitely notice a difference. Check my sig for cam specs. I still have completely stock heads also!

I won't be doing the cam swap period. Last Jan. my brother and I (and he is an experienced mechanic) swapped the cam in my 305, what I thought had 80k miles ended up being 180k. Anyways something went wrong and I ended up buying a new motor. So I figure just pay a professional to do it and not worry. I'm probably going to get a Summit cam as they are cheaper. My brother says they are good cams, anyone think otherwise. Oh, and I'm going to have my new intake installed with it and some tranny work. Hopefully, No4nJunk that will put me a little faster than you, only That is if I can hook up better. Do you have posi with yours. Just wondering maybe that will help my traction.

yeah that would put you ahead of me accept I just bought a new torque converter (2500 stall) and a posi unit. I should be putting it on in a month ( I'm at college right now) at the speed shop I used to work at. They always let me use their tools. Anyway for now IF you can get traction you would be faster than me. Remember though I know how to tune a car....but then again so does your brother. I also have a better flowing exhaust especially with the H pipe. But I wish you luck on everything. Hope this gives you the boost in power that your hoping for. BTW what are the cam specs? Email me whenever you find out your power gain. mccleanb1@winthrop.edu

I wasn't trying to say that I would beat you, I just wanted an estimate that I should run faster that's all. Good luck with the TC.

Well you actually could run faster...I mean we both have about the same mods. It just depends on the little stuff. If you are putting in what I think you are then you should be good for low 14s. That cam will bring those 3.73s to life. At least it did for my car. I'm hoping the posi and the TC will get me the 8.50 that I want (1/8 mile) which would be about a 13.7 or so. But this is all speculation.
