88 gta fuel pump sending unit question

I just installed a brand new fuel pump sending unit with a walbro 450lph fuel pump that I rigged up
When I was trying to get it in it seemed to take 2 times to get the float clocked down
now I know that now it's in working
The fuel gauge went from 1/8 down to 0 empty
and It ohmed the same as my gauge
should I just get some gas cans from the store and 20l at a time and watch the gauge go up
has any one ever fully installed the sending unit and relized that the float wanst clocked down where it was supposed to go
let me know
ty

Re: 88 gta fuel pump sending unit question

Mine is stuck at well above full. I think my problem is in the wiring somewhere because I've gone through two fuel pumps since it started doing this and I know they were both installed correctly.

I bought a brand new sending unit no pump stainless steel one rock auto the gauge always worked there was a time it floated around alot and it was driverside carpet under seat
you pull the carpet back
there is a ground wire under it that corroded up
you clean it up. And problem solved
