Need help with 84 camaro
Need help with 84 camaro
Purchased car about 4/5 months ago. Been nearly everyday driver since. Had tune up oil change plugs wires fuel filter and battery changed. Immediately following my second oil change and having all fluids topped off i was informed of a major oil leak but was told they couldnt tell where it was coming from. Few days after getting this done i get home from work and I can hear bubbling underneath my hood. What i see is my coolant tank nearly completely full to the brim and is what seems to be boiling. Enough so that it had even spewed out the top of the tank even with cap still on. It took a few minutes for it to stop bubbling and eventually leveled back down to fill mark. No clear sign of any leakage anywhere whatsoever from any other area of vehicle. Any idea where i might begin trouble shooting this issue??? Thanks for reading. Any suggestions are appreciated

coolant spill could be nothing more than recovery tank overfilled a little or an old, defective radiator cap blowing off pressure early...or you may have an overheating problem that can be discussed once more details are brought up.Common oil leak areas will depend on what engine is in the car.
Re: Need help with 84 camaro
Pressure test the coolant system, Ill bet you are leaking compression pressure into the water jacket = head gasket.
If you don't have access to a pressure tester, you can also run it with the radiator cap off and check for continuous bubbling. Don't open it hot though, wait until it is cold to remove the cap.

Try a new radiator cap. Might be nothing else wrong with it.
For "major oil leak", take it to the quarter car wash and clean it up so you can see where it comes from. I'll give you a hint of THE VERY FIRST THING you should check though: if the smog pump has been hacked off, as is more likely than not, then if they didn't put a bolt in this hole, put a SHORT one in there (½" long, NO LONGER), with a drop of RTV on the threads.

It goes RIGHT DIRECTLY INTO the fuel pump drive rod passage. It will SPEW RUTHLESSLY at cruising RPMs, at which time the oil will get slung all over the lower right area of the engine bay and make a GIANT mess of the oil pan, frame, engine mount, exhaust, etc. etc. etc. all down there, but won't leak (much anyway) at idle, and thus can be VERY HARD to find.
